Songs come from living life

The Vision

Music is a passport, bridge-builder, moment-maker, tear-jerker and voice-giver.  Music is the where I deep dive into life, emotion, dreams, fears and joy. It’s also where I learn what’s really going on inside my heart, as the stories, songs, minors and majors take shape. During high school, I simply used the 4 chords I knew to put my poems to music. College brought much fodder for the creative fires, and friends would often hear me play a new song and question where on earth it came from—because the lyrics told a story they never knew happened, something I had been able to share yet. Songwriting is my catharsis, teacher, and friend.

Music is also somewhat like rainbows. God did not have to make rainbows.  He could have just said it black on white, but it pleased Christ to tell the story of the good Samaritan. And it pleased God to make rainbows in the sky, and to give certain people gifts of drawing, imagining and making melody. (Seerveld)

So I make music, write songs, and explore melodies because it is a gifting that calls to me everyday—if I take the time to listen to it. My desire is to daily knock on the door of emotion, creativity, imagination, and love—entering every space I can find to explore the beauty that lies there. Daily I also find that my soil is shallow, but I am compelled to keep digging up the soil to find good earth to plant seeds in. I am committed to tending those dreams, songs, melodies, and stories till we find a way for them to be fully grown.  I’m pushing myself to create music that reflects light, truth and beauty, while also being so freaking good that you and I have to press repeat.

It’s a journey.  Hope you’ll join me! The best way to do that is to get plugged in via my email list; it’s my voice and creative discussion space.

Disclaimer: This vision is dynamic.  It changes and grows with me as I bounce it off friends, read new books, go to new cities and live life.  So please comment and critique. I welcome the refinement.
